POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional IT and marine fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Statistician to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.

The Statistician supports the development and application of statistical models to evaluate the abundance, distribution, and population dynamics of marine mammals, sea turtles, and other protected species. This role is essential in supporting assessments that guide federal conservation and management decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply statistical methodologies (e.g., generalized linear models, distance sampling, Bayesian approaches) to ecological and survey data.
  • Contribute to the development of models for abundance estimation, bycatch estimation, and ecological trend analysis.
  • Collaborate with biologists and analysts to support survey design, population assessments, and environmental data integration.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and permit documentation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in statistics, quantitative ecology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, and/or SAS, with experience in modeling ecological data.
  • Familiarity with survey data, spatial analysis, and statistical inference methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to scientific publications or technical reports
