The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children’s Mercy Kansas City, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Pain Management Program, is recruiting a pediatric pain psychologist. The psychologist’s role will primarily include 1) providing consultation and follow-up care in an outpatient interdisciplinary pain clinic, and 2) providing individual and group therapy for adolescents during participation in our pediatric intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment program (the “RAPS” program). The psychologist will be part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team, with frequent communication and opportunities to provide team support.

This position will primarily support the clinical activities of Children Mercy’s expanding pain management service. The position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

3) Experience working on multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary teams

4) Experience working with adolescents and families facing complex biopsychosocial conditions such as chronic pain

5) Eligibility for licensure in Missouri and Kansas

Preferred qualities:

1) Fellowship level training in pediatric psychology including evaluation and treatment of chronic pain

2) Experience with intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment

3) Interest in, or experience with, acceptance-based treatment approaches, mindfulness, and self-compassion ( as these are foundational to our intensive treatment approach )

The position includes a competitive salary and benefits package. The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children’s Mercy offers a dynamic and collegial work environment and Kansas City offers an excellent quality of life. Our division includes 41 psychologists, 8 developmental pediatricians, 7 child and adolescent psychiatrists, and other allied health professionals who work together to provide outstanding mental and behavioral health care to youth in our region and beyond. Psychologists in the Section of Pediatric Psychology work closely with medical subspecialties to meet the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents with acute or chronic health conditions, and many enjoy leadership roles across the hospital.

“The successful applicant must share our unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, collegiality, antiracism, and respect for inclusion of individuals with diverse backgrounds.”
