The faculty member will engage in teaching and work collaboratively with colleagues to coordinate sections of LIB 220: Introduction to Interpersonal Communication for Health Professionals, a course that focuses on the principles and practice of interpersonal communication with particular attention to interactions in healthcare contexts. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching courses to undergraduate students and assisting with hiring, staffing, supporting, and onboarding adjunct faculty members. As an Assistant/Associate Professor, the selected candidate’s responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service on official committees of the school or the University. Teaches LIB 220: Introduction to Interpersonal Communication for Health Professionals. Teaching may also include Social Sciences or Liberal Arts electives and could contribute to our undergraduate Health Humanities program. Incorporates inclusive and active learning strategies in courses to promote student success. Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, grades and other materials to communicate with students. Assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments through university-approved mechanisms. Coordinates sections of LIB 220. Manage the curriculum in collaboration with current full-time faculty and ensure consistency across sections. Update and share the common syllabus among faculty teaching the courses. Build community among instructors by holding periodic meetings or through email communication. Stay current with trends and best practices in instruction of interpersonal communication. Supports full-time and adjunct faculty members teaching LIB 220. Work with Associate Dean to provide input on the hiring of adjunct faculty members of the course and to onboard new instructors as needed. Perform observations of new instructors with Associate Dean. Provide mentoring, feedback, and support to adjunct community as needed. Updates and assesses communication courses. Periodically review and revise course content to align with university needs. Work with General Education Assessment Committee to coordinate assessing LIB 220 as part of general education assessment work. Work with faculty who teach other university Communications courses to evaluate university needs Performs administrative duties to coordinate sections of LIB 220. Work with Associate Dean to prepare the course schedule and assign faculty to LIB 220 courses. Work together with other departments or stakeholders as needed. Strives to stimulate learning and actively seeks advancement of teaching and learning processes. Maintains an active scholarship agenda appropriate for this rank. Participates in committee work as appropriate, advised by the department chair. Assumes other duties as requested by the Dean of Arts & Sciences and Chair of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. Required Ph.D. or terminal degree in Communications or similar discipline, with a background in Communication theory or related field. Commitment to undergraduate education and student success. Minimum of three (3) years teaching at the college/university level. Experience teaching healthcare-focused students preferred. Demonstrated organizational skills as required for a coordinator. Record of scholarly activities commensurate with rank and evidence of potential for continuing scholarly development. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, effectively interacting with a wide array of parties at all levels (undergraduate students, faculty, administration, staff). Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard).
