Estimator – Commercial Construction | Northern New Jersey

Our client, a long-standing New Jersey-based general contractor with over 50 years of success , is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their growing preconstruction and operations team. The firm specializes in ground-up commercial construction , including auto dealerships, warehouses, retail strip centers, shopping plazas, grocery stores, and mixed-use developments throughout New Jersey and the surrounding region.

The ideal candidate will have strong ground-up commercial estimating experience , a keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial ground-up projects from conceptual through final bid stages.
• Perform quantity take-offs for all trades and develop comprehensive scopes of work.
• Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals , ensuring competitive pricing and scope alignment.
• Prepare and maintain bid logs, cost breakdowns, and historical cost data for future pricing reference.
• Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and clients to provide value engineering recommendations and budget optimization strategies.
• Review plans, specifications, and addenda to ensure accurate and complete bids.
• Participate in bid walkthroughs, pre-bid meetings, and client presentations as needed.
• Assist with change order pricing, schedule of values , and project buyout support during project turnover.
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and design professionals to ensure consistent bid coverage and competitive pricing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture , or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction (ground-up preferred).
• Proven experience estimating projects such as auto dealerships, retail centers, warehouses, and shopping complexes .
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, market pricing, and trade sequencing.
• Proficiency with estimating software (such as Procore Estimating, Sage, or Bluebeam Revu) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional demeanor when representing the company.
